Non-Thermal Pasteurization
Leveraging the benefits of Non-Thermal Pasteurization
Pasteurization, the term generally used to refer to the process in which liquids are heated to high temperatures so as to kill microorganisms and achieve a very high level of disinfection, comes with high energy costs. Food and beverage manufacturers require pasteurized-level water for some processes that involve direct contact with the product, such as mixing water with concentrates to produce juices and other beverages, as well as for product pushing and cleaning.

Cost-effective and disinfection-effective
Using a pasteurizer to attain very high disinfection levels is an extremely energy-intensive and expensive process. Atlantium has developed a Hydro-Optic Disinfection™ system (the PR20) to be used as a Non-Thermal Pasteurizer that offers a clean and low-cost, equally effective alternative to conventional energy-hungry pasteurizers. With the Non-Thermal Pasteurizer, the required high disinfection dose levels are consistently maintained by Atlantium’s real-time, automated monitoring system which continuously measures water flow rate and water transmissivity, while adjusting the required dose accordingly.

Dramatic business benefits
Food and beverage manufacturers that have installed Atlantium’s Hydro-Optic Disinfection Non-Thermal Pasteurizer have experienced dramatic cost and energy savings. For example, one Atlantium customer reduced maintenance costs by more than $60,000 and improved operations

  • Lower operating costs achieved by reducing electricity and fuel oil consumption
  • Fewer labor hours devoted to servicing the pasteurizer
  • Less need for CIP due to reduced scaling on production equipment
  • Improved uptime as the Hydro-Optic Disinfection system is ready for operation in a matter of minutes
  • Greater product safety
  • Small-footprint system saves space and costs
