What UV dose type should be used?
This is one of the most important factors when deciding about a UV system. It will determine number of lamps, energy consumption, size and price of the UV system. There are two basic UV dose types:
Average UV dose does not provide Average Protection, it provides No Protection at all!
Reduction Equivalent Dose (RED): represents the lowest UV dose level delivered by the UV system. Only systems that are designed according to RED can provide water bio-security for aquaculture facilities since they can ensure the minimum required UV dose level for inactivation of the target pathogen/s.
Average UV dose: the UV system delivers UV dose levels that are higher and lower than the designated UV dose. Pathogens that receive a UV dose which is lower than the required dose will survive the UV system and contaminate the fish tanks.
