An Efficient Disinfection and Dichlorination Solution with the Use of Light
Pharmaceutical facilities looking for a highly efficient and chemical disinfectant free solution to prevent bacterial growth and associated biofouling can rely on the proven performance of the HOD™ (Hydro-Optic Disinfection) UV technology.
Atlantium’s HOD UV technology, equally effective with cold or hot water, provides facilities with an energy-efficient and a chemical disinfectant free process control solution. It provides dechlorination for RO and EDI, prevents RO membrane biofouling and delivers proven disinfection for the PW/WFI loop. The technology protects sensitive RO membranes and CDI/EDI from chlorine by providing removal of free available chlorine (FAC) to non-detect levels, replacing problematic granular activated carbon filter (GAC) or sodium bisulfite (SBS) dechlorination techniques. Ozone destruction is also provided. Integrated advanced software for real time monitoring and control of mission-critical parameters guarantees that water purity is maintained and complies with PW and WFI standards.

Why HOD UV?
Atlantium’s medium-pressure HOD UV technology is extremely effective in decomposing free-chlorine to undetectable levels and is a clean and safe alternative to activated carbon filter and sodium bisulfite. HOD UV protects RO filter membrane from microbial contamination, reducing the maintenance burden, while providing high-level water disinfection and on-demand availability.
Protects RO Membranes and Greatly Extends Membrane Life
- HOD UV reduces free available chlorine (FAC) to undetectable levels
- HOD UV is proven to extend the life of RO membranes
- HOD UV protects EDI modules and other chlorine-sensitive equipment
High-Level Disinfection
- HOD UV reduces the potential for RO membrane biofouling
- HOD UV reduces the risk of microorganisms in the hot water loop
- HOD UV is USPW compliant — no additional disinfection needed
Protects RO filters
- Protects the RO filters from microbial contamination, lengthening RO filter life and reducing its maintenance burden and operating costs
Protects against biofouling
- Protects EDI modules from biofouling, reducing its maintenance burden and operating costs
- Protects chlorine-sensitive equipment
- Dramatically reduces the need for frequent heat sanitation in hot water loop
A light based disinfection solution
- Physical disinfection process
- Reduces reliance on chemical disinfectants and their associated risks (e.g., safety, storage, handling, disposal)
- Reduced chemical use means reduced pipe corrosion
- Dechlorination UV dose is powerful enough for use as primary disinfection barrier in hot water loop
- True in-line system with small footprint, can be installed vertically or horizontally
- Easily integrated into existing facilities
- Save spacing compared to carbon filters and SBS
- Atlantium engineers help customize options to reduce maintenance costs and assist in the validation process.
