Why HOD UV?

Biofouling from Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) has profound operational impacts. Mussels and other AIS attach to or clog submerged surfaces including water intakes, trashracks, cooling water piping, fire control systems and more – resulting in flow restrictions and blockages that threaten water delivery and power reliability. The associated costs from lost power production can be significant.

Atlantium’s HOD UV treatment solution is proven effective at controlling biofouling from mussels and other AIS, enabling cleaner and more efficient heat transfer in cooling water exchangers.

HOD UV is a cost-effective non-chemical solution that eliminates the need for chemicals when treating AIS.

Atlantium’s HOD UV technology is an effective and sustainable alternative to chemical biofouling, dechlorination and disinfection methods.

HOD UV provides a physical disinfection process to minimize the membrane biofouling potential by reducing and/or eliminating anaerobic and aerobic bacterial growth. The operational impacts of biofouling on RO membranes include frequent membrane element replacement costs, production loss and increased energy costs. HOD UV is a cost-effective treatment approach that saves clients the costs associated with chemical use, CIP, RO membrane replacement, and regeneration cycles for the demineralizers.

HOD UV technology decomposes the free chlorine oxidant in process water to protect RO membranes and other chlorine-sensitive equipment in power, energy and industrial facilities. As a non-chemical dechlorination treatment approach the use of HOD UV does not act as a food source for microbes like SBS/SMBS neutralization. Additionally, HOD UV does not require the handling, storage and operational requirements of chemically-based treatment approaches.

HOD UV allows clients to eliminate the use of biocides and achieve non-chemical disinfection by employing an easy-to-use and maintain system

Atlantium’s HOD UV helps utilities and facilities looking for an environmentally friendly, non-chemical solution to treat Legionella that poses no danger to the workers and the environment.

HOD UV offers a proven low energy solution to achieve 100% mortality of Legionella.

HOD UV is ideal for utilities that want to reduce biofilms; utilities operating under restricted use of chemicals in cooling tower water; or utilities that need to reduce their chemical load to meet discharge rules while still meeting the Legionella-related rules.

HOD UV Is Designed to Inactivate Legionella

HOD UV is designed to penetrate cell membranes, damages DNA and microbe repair proteins so they are unable to reproduce or recover downstream. It can be used to replace chemicals entirely or to supplement a reduced chemical dose that is well within the regulations. It is also proven to significantly reduce biofouling potential by inactivating water-borne microorganisms that are highly resistant to chemicals and form robust biofilms. Apart from being Legionella habitats, biofilms impair heat transfer, cause formation of deposits in control valves and measuring cells and promote corrosion.

Accurate Dosing, Cost-Effective Treatment

HOD UV features an accurate and cost-effective dosing approach to reduce Legionella concentrations to within regulatory standards. The HOD UV system automatically adjusts the UV dose to meet the standards even when there is a change in water quality. The HOD UV makes sure that the exact dose needed to reduce Legionella concentrations to within regulatory standards is used without wasting power by overdosing.

Small-Footprint, Inline System

HOD UV’s small-footprint and inline design can hook up to any cooling tower and provide efficient, cost-effective water treatment that self-adjusts to changing water quality. A robust, automatic solution with minimal maintenance requirements, it can be easily integrated with operational controls and remotely monitored.
